South Florida Youth Symphony
Fostering the musical growth of young people in Dade and Broward Counties for four decades, the South Florida Youth Symphony is one of the most highly respected youth music organizations in the nation. While serving as a training ground for young serious musicians, the non-profit SFYS trains students to reach their potential in preparation for college, career, and a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Players study and perform outstanding compositions of the orchestral repertoire under the guidance of professional conductors and teachers.
More than 3,000 students have directly participated in SFYS programs, and numerous musicians have gone on to study professionally at prestigious music schools such as Julliard, Eastman, Peabody, Manhattan, Oberlin University of Miami, Northwestern, Columbia, and the New England Conservatory. Many former SFYS graduates are currently playing at major universities as well as with professional orchestras throughout the United States. In addition, through annual performances, SFYS - founded in 1964 by Maestro Carmen Nappo, has touched the lives of tens of thousands, with young peoples converts and summer music academies.
