Raquel Rubi
A native of Havana, Cuba, where she completed studies of Piano, Composition, with the prestigious composer Harold Gramatges, and started vocal studies with the soprano Maria Eugenia Barrios at the Instituto Superior de Arte. Ms. Rubi was dedicated to the interpretation of Early Music for several years. First, as a soprano of the Early Music Ensemble “Ars Longa†, participating in Latin-American festivals as: “Cervantes en todas partes†in Guanajuato, Mexico, and “Festival de Musica Religiosaâ€, in Popayan, Colombia. She also recorded a CD “El eco de Indias†with them before becoming the director of the Early Music Ensemble “El Gremioâ€, where combined Early Music, Acting and Dance in their performances in the ancient juglares’ companies style.
Before her arrival to the United States she was working as a soprano soloist of the National Center of Concert Music, in Havana, Cuba, as well as beginning an acting career, which includes the film “Scent of Oakâ€, earned her the best support actress award “Caricato 2003â€.
She is a doctoral candidate at the University of Miami and was awarded a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Florida International University, from the studio of Robert Dundas. Ms Rubà has started building her own studio, in addition to her studio at the Music Learning Center of Miami Dade College, North Campus. Also, she is the founder and director of RUBI Ensemble since November, 2009 in Miami.
