Miami Contemporary Dance Company
Miami Contemporary Dance Company, now in its eighth year, is led by internationally acclaimed artistic director Ray Sullivan. Prior to founding the Company, Mr. Sullivan enjoyed an extensive international dance career performing works by over forty choreographers in North America, South America, Asia and Europe. Mr. Sullivan was awarded with the Dance Miami Choreographer's Fellowship in 2005 in recognition of his contributions to the dance community.
MCDC's 2007-08 Season includes a major performance series at The Colony Theater, an educational program for children and adults, community outreach programs, a choreographer's workshop, and an international cultural exchange project with Argentina and Italy. The Company, 12 dancers strong, the School faculty and a staff are comprised of a culturally diverse and international team of accomplished dance professionals.
In June 2004, Miami Contemporary Dance Center, a renovated warehouse at 1919 Purdy Avenue, Miami Beach, became the home on the Miami Contemporary Dance Company and School. Miami Contemporary Dance School offers dance training for students ages 3-18 as well as a complete adult program including ballet, modern, tango, and BalletYogaWorks. Miami Contemporary Dance Company has established an exciting and significant presence on Miami Beach. In November 2004, Mr. Sullivan was presented with the Key to the City of Miami Beach by Commissioner Simon Cruz at the Jackie Gleason Theater. The Miami Sunpost named Miami Contemporary Dance Company and School as ?Best Dance Center 2005?.
The Miami Herald named the Company among the ?Top Ten in Dance 2004?. The Miami New Times declared Miami Contemporary Dance Company the ?Best Dance Company 2004?. MCDC participated in the massive Cars and Fish art installation at the Carnival Center site during Art Basel Miami on December 2, 2005. In September 2006, the Company performed in the acclaimed International Ballet Festival of Miami at the Jackie Gleason Theater. MCDC has an ongoing international dance exchange program with Argentina and recently returned from Buenos Aires where they performed Tango Undressed.
The mission of Miami Contemporary Dance Company is to create high quality contemporary dance for Miami audiences and to represent Miami-Dade nationally and throughout the worldwhile offering excellence in contemporary dance education.
