Miami City Ballet
Miami City Ballet, under the artistic direction of Edward Villella, continues to captivate audiences around the United States and internationally with its thrilling company of dancers and broad repertoire. In the past two decades, Miami City Ballet has become one of the largest and most successful ballet companies in the United States, with 40 dancers and four home counties where it produces seasons in South Florida. The company has to date visited 33 states and over 100 U.S. cities. Internationally, it has performed in Europe, South America, Central America and Israel.
The company's repertoire includes many of George Balanchine's masterworks, most notably Prodigal Son, Apollo, Agon, and the full-length Jewels and works by contemporary choreographers such as Paul Taylor and Twyla Tharp. Ballets by Frederick Ashton, Petipa, Bournonville, Edward Villella and others highlight the repertoire. The dancers of Miami City Ballet are an international mix, hailing from many of the world's great companies and training facilities.
New works include the evening-length Don Quixote, Twyla Tharp's Push Comes to Shove and Jerome Robbins' Dances at a Gathering.
