Mia Vassilev
Miami-based pianist Mia Vassilev has concertized in the U.S., China, and Italy. In Bulgaria, she has been broadcast on the Classical Radio Network. Winner of the Presser Scholar Award, the Melba C. Budge Fellowship, the Outstanding Performer Award and the University Concerto Competition, she completed her undergraduate studies in piano performance from Kansas State University, where she studied with Dr. Robert Edwards.
She holds a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, graduating in 2001 as a University Graduate Scholar recipient both years where she studied with Richard Fields and Michael Chertock. Versatile in both solo concertizing and collaborative work, she has performed on the Grandin Chamber Music Festival in Cincinnati, served as faculty/artist on the Animato Chamber Music Festival in Miami, and currently performs in the Orpheus Duo with cellist Javier Arias.
Mia has also been a pianist for tours, outreach programs, and production rehearsals with many opera companies including: Glimmerglass Opera in New York, Florida Grand Opera, Cincinnati Opera, and the Hispanic-American Lyric Theatre of Miami, Florida, as well as serving as a staff pianist in festivals such as OTMFL (Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca), Italy, and the AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) Festival in Graz, Austria. Besides concertizing, Mia is also founder and director of the Miami Piano Circle, which produces piano concert series in the Miami area, with the mission of bringing classical programming to all audiences.
