FIU Symphony Orchestra
The Strings Studies Program is designed to develop talented students into skilled professional performers. Through the studies and performance of standard as well as 20th Century etudes, solos, chamber music, and orchestral literature, string players are given a wide variety of opportunities to develop their talents. Coaching by the Miami String Quartet provides a focus for an active program in chamber music. Harp and guitar programs are designed to develop skilled performers with standard solo, ensemble and orchestra literature.
An important reason for FIU's reputation is the quality of its internationally acclaimed faculty. Additionally, master classes and workshops, given by renowned visiting artists are an integral part of the curriculum.
In the recent past, our string students and chamber music ensembles were prize winners at various competitions.
The FIU Strings Program has two performing ensembles, The Chamber Orchestra and the much acclaimed FIU Symphony Orchestra. The repertoire of these ensembles cover the spectrum of sound from Baroque to Contemporary.
The FIU Symphony Orchestra gives numerous performances throughout the year which feature world-renowned artists as well as students. These concerts resound in the wonderful acoustics of the Wertheim Performing Arts Center.
