Fabiana Claure

Fabiana Claure has pursued internationally her career as a pianist, performing extensively not only in the United States, but also in Bolivia, Cuba, and Spain. As a soloist, she has performed with the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, the College of Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfonica Iuventas, and the Valencia Youth Orchestra. She has been featured in several international music festivals such as the Piccolo Spoleto International Music Festival (Charleston, South Carolina), the Iberoamerican Music Festival (Havana, Cuba), and the COFES International Music Festival (Cochabamba,Bolivia).

Fabiana won First Prize in the 1993 "Franklin Anaya" Piano Competition, and the 1997 "Mus-Art" Young Pianists National Competition in Bolivia. She was a winner in the 2002 Arthur Fraser Young Artists Piano Competition in Columbia, South Carolina, and won Second Prize in the 2003 Southeastern Piano Competition in North Carolina. In Miami she won First Prize in the 2008 University of Miami Concerto Competition.

Fabiana began her studies with Ana Maria del Carpio and graduated from Instituto Laredo in Bolivia. She continued her studies in Havana, Cuba graduating from the National School of Music where she studied with Miriam Cruz and later Andres Alen. She then entered the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana, Fabiana and after one year of studies, Fabiana won a full piano scholarship to continue her undergraduate studies with Enrique Graf at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. After graduating Cum Laude from the College of Charleston, she received a full scholarship to study with Joaquin Achucarro at the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Fabiana holds both a Masters of Music and an Artist Certificate degree in Piano Performance degree from SMU. In 2006 Fabiana was named a recipient of a P.E.O. scholar award, she was selected as one of the 80 fellows from over 800 applications in the US and Canada.

Currently, Fabiana is pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance with a cognate in Music Business under a full scholarship at the University of Miami. She is studying with Dr. JB Floyd. In addition to her studies, Fabiana is a Teaching Assistant for the Keyboard Department at the Frost School of Music and a Piano Faculty member of the Miami Dade College’s Music Learning Center. She also teaches private lessons in her studio.

Recently, Fabiana was awarded a Yamaha In-Residence Fellowship from The College Music Society Fund. This fellowship is one of five awards given nationally to graduate music students majoring in performance to pursue a community outreach and engagement program. She will organize and co-perform, along with her husband pianist William Villaverde, in a series of concerts for a variety of audiences in Miami during the 2009-2010 academic year.
